COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The fifth annual Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships concluded Sunday (Feb. 14), with 15 teams crowned as champions. The three-day event (Feb. 12-14), which featured more than 1,500 adult hockey players, took place on Dollar Lake in Eagle River, Wis.
"The 2010 Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships was the most successful and largest event in the five years we've gone to Eagle River," saidAshley Bevan, USA Hockey's director of adult hockey. "The continued growth and success of the event wouldn't be possible without the support of Labatt Blue, the countless volunteers of Eagle River and all the teams that traveled from across the country."
The 2010 Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships featured a record 225 teams, representing 25 states, competing on 24 outdoor rinks. The Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships has grown significantly since its inception in 2006, when just 40 teams participated.
Also highlighting the weekend were appearances by 1980 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team members Neal Broten and Dave Christian, as well as 1984 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team head coach Lou Vairo.
