Oakland University Hockey sophomore defenseman Dustin Hopfner has signed with the Evansville Icemen of the ECHL.

“Everybody as a little kid this is one of their goals.” Hopfner said.

“This is just maybe step one of the process. Hopefully I can make an impact here (in Evansville) and justify myself as one of the regular defenseman here and hopefully continue my career.”

Hopfner finishes his Grizzlies career with 67 points.

“At Oakland it was nice.” Hopfner stated.

“A great group of guys. I’m gonna miss that for sure. It just helped me develop as a player. Just watching anybody who you play no matter who it is you always learn a little something from everybody."

“I definitely learned stuff from the guys I played with and the coaches in general.” Hopfner added.

Hopfner is known for his hard shot and heavy hits on the ice. Hopfner quickly became a leader on the Grizzlies team earning the
“A” on his sweater along with being a great teammate.

“Nothing is out of reach.” Hopfner added.

“Sometimes it takes a little luck and that is what I got. I feel like I worked hard to get myself here as well.”
