U.S. Men's National Univ. Team Falls, 4-0, to Canada

Team USA faces Slovakia tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET to help determine final tournament seeding

GRANADA, Spain—The U.S. Men’s National University Team lost, 4-0, to Canada in its quarterfinal matchup at the 2015 Winter World University Games today at the Granada Sports Palace. Team USA will next face Slovakia tomorrow (Feb. 12) at 11 a.m. ET to help determine final tournament seeding.

The United States and Canada remained scoreless through majority of the first period, until Canada notched two even-strength tallies just 1:14 apart with less than three minutes to play in the frame. In the second stanza, Team USA and Canada traded power-play chances, but neither team could capitalize, and the score remained 2-0 heading into the final frame.

Early in the third period, Canada scored during a five-on-three man-advantage for its third goal. Then, with less than 30 seconds to play, Canada netted another even-strength marker for the 4-0 final.

Notes: The U.S. Men’s National University Team’s next opponent, Slovakia, fell to Russia, 7-0, in a quarterfinal matchup earlier today. Following tomorrow’s contest, Team USA will play at least one more game to determine its final place in the tournament standings.
