First division sold out in just three minutes

It took less than the time an Olympic marathoner finishes a mile for the first division to sell out for the 2017 Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships.

"We continue to be surprised every year by how quickly the event sells out," said Katie Holmgren, the tournament director for the annual event on Dollar Lake in Eagle River, Wis.

Hundreds of teams were parked on the USA Hockey Adult Hockey website (adulthockey.usahockey.com) trying to land a spot at the immensely popular outdoor tournament.

In the end 28 states were represented with Illinois sending the most teams and San Jose boasting the farthest distance to travel this coming February.

"The event wouldn't be possible or as popular without our loyal participants and all the work from the community and volunteers in Eagle River," Holmgren said.

"We're looking forward to being back on Dollar Lake in February. It can't come soon enough," she added. "We love seeing our friends from across the country including all of those teams from Illinois."
